Waltz

Waltz is what most people think of when they hear the words “Ballroom Dance”.  Smooth, elegant, and danced mostly in closed position, Waltz is the granddaddy of Ballroom Dance.  While the figures are a little more challenging than, say, Rumba, the beat is a steady 1-2-3, with no pauses and no triple steps.

Waltz uses 3/4 time music, rather than the more common 4/4.  But it shares most of its figures with Foxtrot, which greatly extends their versatility, as the Foxtrot timing can be substituted to cover 4/4 music as well.
